Camp hosts a great variety
of groups, from home-schooled kids to weavers to youth work camps,
to church groups, to men’s and women’s retreats to family reunions.
Among these is a tradition that has grown from Camp Myrtlewood's
birth:
Church of the Brethren Family Camp
Family Camp is a regular feature, usually held Tuesday through
Sunday worship around the third week in July. Favorite activities
have included intergenerational campfires with music-making and
story-telling, hiking, swimming, folk dances, sports, art, and a
salmon bake. It often includes a Beach Day on the Oregon Coast or
other trips to nearby attractions.
Family Camp 2008 — Save the Date
Tuesday, July 22, to Sunday, July 27
Directors: Glenda and Thayne Groff and family
Theme: GENERATIONS FORWARD
Preserving the Past
Participating in the Present
Preparing for the Future
Some things to look forward to:
- Food, fun & fellowship at this beautiful camp
- Beach day (Friday), campfires, and a possible overnight on Vista
Point (for the adventurous!)
- A time to rest, reflect and renew our commitments to live a
life of love
Be sure to reserve the dates for a wonderful experience at family
camp this year. You can arrive any time after mid-afternoon on Tuesday,
July 22nd. Camp will open with dinner and campfire that evening.
On Wednesday and Thursday, we will offer a Bible study led by Bill
Myers. Bill worked for an international organization and has worked
with many people and cultures. He will be talking about how our
Bible stories shape our past, present and future. If you would like
to prepare a bit in advance, review Matthew and John. Otherwise
— just come prepared for an exciting discussion. Joe and Bubbles
Miguel will be leading a writing workshop which will focus on preserving
our camp stories for generations to come. Pearl Rohrer will lead
a workshop on Native American drumming, culminating in the Friday
night campfire. We will have a morning meditation focusing on living
in the present, and a variety of other offerings. There will be
age groups for high school and younger. In the afternoon we will
have swimming, sports, crafts, hiking, and some special interest
workshops. Each evening will close with campfire and snacks.
Friday we will take a break for Beach Day. Saturday will continue
with the morning workshops. Added to the afternoon activities will
be the traditional softball games. Sunday we will close with worship
and lunch.
We will invite people to participate fully in the community in
a variety of ways. Please bring ideas for skits and talents to share.
We would like folks who are going on a hike or other activities
to write the time they are going on a poster board in the dining
hall, so others who are less adventurous can join them.
Family camp is a time to rest, reflect, re-create and renew our
commitments to live a life of love. Plan to join us for the food,
fun and fellowship at this beautiful camp.
The fees are the same as last year:
Adults and youth — $24 per day, $120
for the full camp.
Children age 3 to 8 — half price
Age 2 and under — Free
Scholarships are available.
No advance payment is requested.
