Meet the Team

  • Shauna Danielson

    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | CAMP MANAGER

    Shauna "Lichen" is a proud science and nature nerd who loves sharing her passion with campers. Living and working at camp with her family is a dream come true. Shauna spent over a decade as a teacher and believes outdoor school is the best! Shauna was born, raised, and went to college in the Portland area. She fell in love with Southern Oregon while living in Ashland and obtaining her MS in Environmental Education. Shauna also loves traveling, roller skating, thrift store shopping, watercolor painting, and kayaking.

  • Joshua Danielson

    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | CAMP MANAGER

    Joshua has been attending camp since age six, met his wife Shauna here, and even got married at camp. With a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Outdoor Adventure Leadership.

    Fun fact: his original camp name was “Cheekey,” a blend of cheetah and monkey. If he could, he’d combine these animals to climb trees at 70 miles per hour! Joshua is thrilled to be part of the Camp Myrtlewood family.

  • Spencer Danielson

    Spencer Danielson is an energetic and curious 9-year-old who loves exploring the great outdoors. He's often found playing at Camp Myrtlewood, enjoying nature and learning about the environment. Spencer's adventurous spirit and love for animals make him a delightful presence at camp. Spencer also loves wrestling, dogs, pigs, making music, and building Legos.

  • Reid Hirt

    KITCHEN MANAGER | DIRECTOR OF FUN

    Reid has been coming to Camp Myrtlewood’s Family Camp since he was a young child. He began his employment as a summer staff helper and has been the Kitchen Manager since 2021. He grew up in Weed, CA and attended college at UC Davis where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science. Reid has a passion for food, including fermentation and baking. In his free time, Reid enjoys world travel, playing games, and exploring the local beaches.

  • Tayra Shay

    KITCHEN MANAGER | GARDEN COORDINATOR

    Tayra began her employment at camp as a seasonal kitchen assistant in 2022 and became Kitchen Manager and Garden Coordinator in 2024. She was raised in Connecticut and as an adult moved to Trinity County, CA where she used her knowledge and love of gardening to work on various organic farms and community gardens. She particularly enjoys sharing her passion of growing food with children. Tayra loves being outdoors, cooking wholesome vegetarian meals, doing puzzles and spending time with her partner, David, and her two dogs.
